Well pump loses prime in Port St. Lucie?

If a jet pump or irrigation well pump works after priming but loses water again, the issue may be an air leak, check valve, suction line, foot valve, or pump problem.

Common prime-loss clues

Works after priming, then fails

This often suggests the system is not holding water in the suction line or pump body.

Air bubbles or sputtering

Air in the line can point to suction leaks, fittings, valves, or well supply issues.

Irrigation zones fade out

Sprinkler pressure that fades can come from pump prime, leaks, clogged filters, or well output problems.

Jet pump prime loss

A pump should not need repeated priming under normal sealed-system operation.

When an above-ground pump loses prime after shutting off, water may be draining back through a failed foot valve or check valve, or air may be entering through suction fittings, pipe damage, a seal, or the priming plug. A low source-water level or restricted intake can also prevent the pump from establishing reliable flow.

Report how long the pump holds prime, whether the pressure gauge reaches normal shutoff, whether air appears at faucets, and whether the problem began after plumbing work, drought, irrigation demand, or a power interruption. Avoid allowing the pump to run dry while repeatedly attempting to prime it.

Loses prime while off

Drain-back through a valve or an air leak on the suction side is more likely when water disappears between cycles.

Cannot establish prime

Air leakage, insufficient source water, blockage, incorrect valve position, or pump wear can prevent initial water movement.

Prime holds but pressure is weak

Pump output, restrictions, leaks, tank behavior, and system demand should be evaluated after suction integrity is confirmed.

Source level and intake condition should be considered when the suction path tests tight.
