Pressure never reaches cut-off

A pump that keeps running may be trying to build pressure but failing. That can point to a leak, low water, damaged pump, pressure switch problem, tank problem, or restriction in the system.

Continuous operation can result from an open fixture or irrigation demand, a hidden leak, broken underground pipe, lost prime, worn pump, low well-water condition, failed check valve, inaccurate gauge, or pressure switch set above what the system can produce. Running without adequate water or cooling can overheat and damage equipment.
Close normal water uses and observe whether pressure continues rising. Report the highest gauge reading, how long the pump runs, whether water delivery is steady, and whether there are wet areas, air at faucets, controller warnings, or recent changes to irrigation. Turn the system off if pressure remains near zero or the motor becomes hot.
Pump wear, restriction, low voltage, excess demand, or a leak may prevent the system from reaching the normal shutoff point.
Lost prime, a broken pipe, failed pump, low source water, or major leak requires prompt shutdown and diagnosis.
If the pump still does not stop, gauge accuracy, switch sensing, settings, wiring, and controls should be tested.
Before deciding the pump is worn out, confirm that no fixture, irrigation valve, treatment backwash, or underground leak is consuming water. Compare pump pressure with all demands closed and inspect whether water is moving where it should not. If demand is eliminated and pressure still cannot rise, pump output, prime, piping, controls, and source conditions can be tested in order.
