Tank air charge cannot be interpreted correctly while the water side remains pressurized. The system must be shut down and drained before testing, and the correct air setting depends on the pressure-switch cut-in point. Leaks, a clogged sensing port, bad gauge, or switch problem can imitate tank failure.
Count pump cycles during normal use and compare the gauge movement with the switch's expected pressure range.
